Adam & Mimi / Ann Arbor
My experience with PRO K-9 has been absolutely terrific, and receives a 5 star rating! They also deserve many thanks. After the initial consult from Jen, I knew it was a perfect fit to help me with Adam, my very large lab, who was out of control. I was desperate because he had so many behavioral issues, and I was unable to walk him. Adam needed a firmer approach, and I needed lots guidance as well. Jen was extremely knowledgeable and provided some excellent training to us. I still had a long way to go with Adam but I could see some progress. She suggested Socializing Group and also a weekly visit by one of her trainers to walk Adam. Since early winter, Morgan has been coming weekly and sometimes more to work with Adam and me. She is an absolutely amazing trainer and immediately bonded with Adam. She is so gifted and a natural with him. Morgan was always patient and taught me skills that I thought were well beyond my capabilities. When I became discouraged with my skills and Adam’s slow gains, she and Mat were always so encouraging. Between Morgan’s sweetness and Mat’s humor, I survived some stressful group sessions. And guess what? Adam‘s behavior is much better, and we are now taking longer and longer walks. He is no longer biting his leash. He is listening most of the time, and we have a much better relationship now. I will never be able to express my gratitude for what you all have done for us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Luke & Lizzie, Jodi & Mark / Brighton
Simply put, Mat's an amazing trainer. We've been working with him since our shepherd-husky mix puppies Luke and Lizzie were 6 months old and he's a lifesaver. Having two young sons and two even younger puppies, my husband and I felt like we were losing our minds. Mat came in and immediately put us at ease. He explains things clearly and only gives us as much as we can handle. He has realistic expectations, considering our crazy lives, and worked out a training plan with attainable goals. After the first session, we noticed a huge difference in the puppies' manners. Within two sessions our food aggressive boy went from eating in solitary to literally eating from our hands within feet of his sister. It was mind-blowing. Luke has calmed down enough and Lizzie's confidence has been boosted enough that they can now eat side-by-side without incident. On top of that, Mat's very patient and understanding. Two kids running amok might send a weaker soul running for the hills, but Mat just incorporates them into the lesson and uses every distraction as a teaching moment. He knows what he's doing, believes in what he's doing, and makes a point to always explain why. Over the past several months, Mat has opened our eyes to so many possibilities. He's helped us realize that we can have more than just tolerable dogs, but we can have great dogs. He makes training sessions fun and something we can look forward to. And he's always available in between for pep talks and advice. I remember talking to my dad after the initial phone call with Mat where we discussed goals and expectations. My dad asked what happens if the training doesn't work, and I told him I don't think failure's an option with Mat. After six months I know it's not and I'm thankful for it. We still have a ways to go but my husband and I love seeing Luke and Lizzie's progress and are proud
of how far they've come. We can't thank Mat enough for the peace of mind he's given us.
Bo, Aimee & Andy / Detroit
When we first adopted Bo, he was 13 months old and had been in a shelter for a month after being surrendered by his owners for behavior issues. Due to this experience (and the typical GSD neuroticism), he had awful anxiety and this often led to him acting out--growling when we got near his food and toys, pulling while walking, and barking anytime someone came to the house. Honestly, I wished every day that we never got a dog--I felt like we'd never live normally again or be able to have any children near our house! We were so lucky to have Jen help us with Bo. After a few sessions, we learned how to set strong boundaries and to understand that any misbehavior came out of anxiety, not how we understood 'aggression'. (And Jen helped me be less absurdly anxious all the time about having a gigantic dog!) Now, he walks really well, lets us pet him while he's playing with toys and eating, and is much more relaxed at home and with visitors. The one-on-one lessons and Socializing Groups have been a godsend! Now he's our best bud and I couldn't imagine life without him.
Gordon, Tom & Justine / Ann Arbor
We are so thankful for PRO K-9's Puppy Jumpstart session. The results were tremendous to say the least--it was like Morgan flipped a switch! In just one in-home visit, Morgan built the foundation of training & structure for our Golden Retriever puppy, Gordon. Our primary focus was on crate training and separation anxiety, along with introducing obedience fundamentals. During the in-home evaluation, she guided us 1-on-1 through the various routines and training exercises, along with providing a thoughtful assessment of the environment of our apartment. She also provided us with a packet of additional reading material and training resources. Once we were shown the proper way to teach commands and maintain a good structure & schedule, Gordon showed immediate improvements. He became eager to please (but he'll do anything for food, haha) and the anxiety of crate training and being alone improved within a few days. Morgan was very friendly, engaging, and was quick to respond to our many questions. The price was also affordable, in contrast to most other in-home consultations we had researched. We're looking forward to attending future Pro K-9 obedience classes to continue learning and building our awesome relationship with our good boy Gordon!
Flex & Ruby, Barb & Keith / Redford
I have worked with Jen and Mat for years! They have a huge heart for rescue dogs and helping the rescue community. My husband and I got our puppy, Flex, 2 years ago and started in-home puppy training with Jen right away. Jen is so easy to understand and learn from! We learned all sorts of stuff about training, leadership and socialization. Flex also went through PRO K-9’s Puppy Pre K-9 and Basic Obedience classes where we also worked with trainers Mat and Morgan. Then we added another puppy to our family--Ruby! We already had so much information and knowledge to get her started on our own at home, and also had Morgan come by for some “Train While You’re Away” days. They loved the visits in the middle of the day! Ruby also went to Puppy Pre K-9 to socialize. We are so happy to have this awesome team of trainers, and friends. They are awesome people and our dogs are so smart!! We feel completely prepared to raise, and train, amazing dogs!! Thank you Jen, Mat, and Morgan!!
Jesse, Chelsea & Lori / Waterford
I had recently adopted a deaf puppy from Better Life Canine Center. PRO K-9 had already been working with Jesse. His foster mom, with the help of Jen from PRO K-9, had started teaching him some hand signals. After the adoption I continued with Jesse's training. I had Jen come out to the house for the Dog Training for Life Program. By the end of the first week he was walking contently on a loose leash. Over the course of the program he has become the good boy I knew he could be. He can sit patiently and wait by the door until I let him know it is OK to go out. He no longer runs out first. I had another dog at home (Chelsea) that was suffering from severe separation anxiety. I had tried other puppy training courses, but did not get results. Jen worked with Chelsea to get through her behavioral issues. Almost instantly Chelsea and Jesse made drastic improvements. Most importantly, I have been trained to be a good dog owner and effective pack leader in the process as well. As a result, our house is a much calmer, happier place. Chelsea is now off the Prozac and is a wonderful addition to the family. Jen has a unique ability to work with "difficult" and "special needs" dogs, when others said it was not possible. The Socializing Groups are also extremely helpful, and it is great to connect with other dog loving people who have the same issues. Before PRO K-9, I was not able to take the dogs out in public, or have people over to visit. My dogs would jump on anyone who came over, and they would run and bark at other dogs. I cannot thank you enough for all you have done for us! You have changed my life. I can take my dogs anywhere, and be totally comfortable that they won't do anything out of line. I get stopped all the time by people asking how I have such well behaved pups. I tell them to call PRO K-9! I'm eternally grateful.
Homer & Sara / Livonia
Jen and the staff at PRO K-9 have had such a positive impact on my family and my dog, Homer. We first called Jen out of desperation—Homer, our beloved Chow/Shar Pei mix, had recently snapped at one of our good friend’s children. The incident had terrified me, and I knew we had to get some training in. Homer was a super high strung, anxiety filled basket case: constantly barking at anyone who walked by our house, being super territorial, very protective of my husband and I (to the point of nearly biting someone!), and snarling and charging on a leash when we tried to go for walks. Jen came over and immediately diagnosed me as being too much of a “dog mom” and not enough of a “dog leader.” At first, the idea of doing this training was off putting to me—I loved my dog and wanted him to continue loving me—I didn’t want him to think I was mean or commandeering! Through practicing, though, I’ve learned that being a dog leader is not being mean or commandeering to your dog at all; in fact, I think it has given me a better understanding of my dog. Doing this training (and socialization classes afterwards) has allowed Homer to see me as a leader—now, instead of immediately going nuts when other dogs, children, and people are around, he looks to me for signals on how to react. When I am calm and assertive, Homer is also calm and can now relax around things that would normally work him into a frenzy. Homer and I both look forward to going for our daily walks now, and we love going to Thursday night socialization classes (I call it puppy happy hour) to be around other dogs and strangers, which is something that would have NEVER happened without Pro K-9! Thank you, Jen and PRO K-9 for giving me the tools to work with Homer and allowing us to lower the stress and anxiety around our household!
Gemma, Kevin & Tiffany / Ann Arbor
Our experience with Jen at PRO K-9 was wonderful. Jen was extremely knowledgable and had great advice for us as new dog owners. Her training with our dog was very personalized and she adapted the sessions based around our dog's needs. She had great communication not only with our dog Gemma, but with us as owners, with the most effective techniques to use with our skittish rescue dog. This training made the world of difference with our dog as she has attained great confidence through the training and even a year after, her training is still on point. Our friends are always impressed with how well behaved our dog is and it's making our current agility training with Gemma progress so much faster. I would highly recommend Jen to anyone as it has made our lives with our canine companion so much more enriching.
Mia & Olive, Erika & Justin / Canton
PRO K-9 is absolutely fantastic! We have two dogs, both have totally different personalities. Olive is high energy, prey driven and independent; while Mia is people pleasing, dependent and mellow. We called PRO K-9 because Mia was showing aggression towards strangers. When Jen arrived I instantly knew we were in good hands. She described Mia and Olive to a "T" within the first meeting and knew exactly what needed to be done. We have only been out of the in-home training for a couple of months and will continue with the group class and pack hikes, but you can already see a huge difference in our girls! You cannot go wrong with PRO K-9! They train both the dogs and the owners so that all family members are happy and healthy!
Simon & Gus, Carol & Jeff / Plymouth
We can't thank Jen enough with her help and incredible patience. Our two Chow Chows have different issues, but Jen was able to zero in on what those issues are. Having her come into our home was a great way to train. There were many issues we had that only occur in the home: Door rushing, over protection of home and owner, and fear of visitors to name a few. These can only be addressed at the source and Jen gives you the tools you need. Having five dogs we are a work in progress. We have been able to use what we learned with all the dogs. We love the fact Jen is there for you even after in-home training is finished. The socialization groups and pack hikes are a great way to keep the dogs and ourselves on the right track. Jen truly has a gift and it shows.
Cynthia, Renee & Jamie / Livonia
We began working with PRO K-9 approximately a month after we got our rescue, Cynthia. Initially, we signed up for a basic obedience class but soon discovered she could be pretty reactive to other dogs on walks. This reactive behavior was becoming more evident as our honeymoon phase of getting to know Cynthia was over. She presented as a great dog but her behavior was making us not want to take her out on walks. Two days before our group obedience class started, I started to question whether or not she was a candidate for group training classes. Mat spent some time talking to me on the phone as well as time with Cynthia and myself before our first class. Mat helped lessen some of my anxiety about taking her to class as well as explaining some of her behaviors. I am not sure I would have followed through on the classes if he hadn’t done that, which would have been a huge mistake. We have completed two rounds of basic obedience classes with Mat and Morgan. Mat and Morgan are wonderful and extremely knowledgeable about dogs. They gave us great feedback, are patient, and answered all of our questions. Mat and Morgan made us feel welcome in the classes, which is not what I have heard from some of my friends about their experiences at dog training classes. Mat has visited our home to give us some tips on working with her when walking. We now are participating in the weekly Socializing Groups. The change in Cynthia has been remarkable. We have such better control of her when she is around other dogs. Training has increased her confidence as well as strengthened her bond with us. They continue to give us invaluable feedback when working with Cynthia. Since we have a ten year old daughter, it was really important to us to work with Cynthia as we have kids in and out of our home. We wanted her to be a dog that would be okay with strangers, family, and children coming over. Cynthia was that dog but I was concerned without training, would she continue to stay that way. I did not want her nervous behavior to manifest itself into something else without any training. Cynthia has never shown any aggressive tendencies, however, since children are in and out our home, it was really important to me to be a responsible pet owner. We wanted to be more confident in handling Cynthia so my behaviors didn’t increase her anxiety but helped contribute making her a more confident dog. We definitely put a lot of work in outside of the classes, but it really has paid off. Mat, Jen, and Morgan have helped us immensely and we are forever grateful. I highly recommend them without any reservation for any of your training needs.
Grayson & Karen / Pleasant Ridge
If it weren't for Mat and the PRO K-9 team I would still be deathly afraid of taking Grayson out for walks, going to friend's homes, having people over, going to public places, basically living any type of normal life with my beloved fur child. Grayson was a very anxious, self-conscious dog that questioned everything that moved, which sprouted up the negative behavior of being territorial and showing aggression toward dogs and humans. This only got worse with time. I had tried obedience training through a local pet store, but they only focused on just that, obedience. Even my trainer was at a loss of the right way to correct his Jekyll-Hyde behavior. When I heard about Mat and PRO K-9 through friends and learned how successful their training was, there was no question of putting Grayson, and myself, through the same training. When I first met Mat for our evaluation I instantly knew I was in great hands. He immediately identified what types of issues Grayson had and planned out a strategic process for us to rectify his and, most importantly, my behavior through our in-home sessions, followed by group sessions. Mat provided (and still does provide) insightful, understandable and to-the-point knowledge and tools to help me succeed in training my dog. I had thought taking Grayson for even a walk around the block was a lost cause, but now I'm able to walk confidently anywhere I go without him uncontrollably lunging at other dogs or even humans. When having company over I no longer have to worry about my dog's erratic behavior and can comfortably invite guests into my home knowing Grayson is under control. Without Mat and PRO K-9, Grayson and I would be living in constant fear and anxiety, but thanks to the aid of these true professionals we're both at ease and I no longer have to lose any sleep wondering if my dog is a liability to others. This is the type of peace of mind that is absolutely priceless. Thank you to Mat and the PRO K-9 team, I'm forever in your debt!
Cado, Bella & Miriam / Novi
I contacted PRO K-9 when I moved into a new home that no longer had a fenced in yard. I was struggling with my seven year old Siberian Huskys, Cado and Bella. They were having a difficult time transitioning from having the freedom of running lose in the backyard to now being walked on a leash. In addition, both dogs were not used to having some many dogs in a neighborhood. Cado and Bella had never been trained properly and did not know how to behave around other dogs or people. Morgan has really been helpful in teaching me the tools on how to become a leader of my pack. She was able to quickly show me that my dogs were trainable and went over and beyond in spending time answering my questions and training Cado and Bella. The most important tool of all that I have taken from this experience is knowing that I am the leader and can regain control of my pups when needed. Thanks so much Morgan!!
Buddy, Melissa & Corey / Belleville
Our dog, Buddy, is a 7 month old Boxer. Boxers are high energy dogs, so we wanted to start training right away. We attended the Puppy Pre K-9 class and then the Basic Obedience class at Premier Pet Supply. Mat and Morgan are great trainers. We have learned a ton, and Buddy is doing great! We are extremely happy with PRO K-9. Thank you, Mat and Morgan.
Starla, Brooke & Kevin / Pleasant Ridge
Rescuing a dog can be quite the challenge; I realized this when I adopted my dog, Starla, in 2011. The animal shelter could give me no background, since she was found running the streets of a highly populated city. We had been through multiple trainers by the time we found PRO K-9. None of them tried to solve anything; they had us use tools/tactics to manage/deal with the issues. When Mat came to our house for the first time for the in-home evaluation, I knew things would be different. At first, I thought Starla had aggression issues. After Mat observed her behavior, he informed us that it wasn’t aggression. Starla is playful, but also extremely impulsive and can be rude to other dogs. Our reaction time wasn’t in check, which led to a lot of unsatisfactory and hard-to-handle behavior from Starla. We have been attending the weekly Socializing Groups for several months now. They are helping Starla understand how she should and shouldn’t act in social situations. We’ve even been told by ‘the regulars’ that we have made incredible progress! Thank you so much PRO K-9!
Foxy & Kaity / Detroit
Foxy was a bit of wild one...well, a LOT of a wild one. When she came to us in May from the streets, I had tried using the few training skills I remembered from training my dog as a child but I was hitting a wall. She knew how to SIT and was sort of catching on to DOWN. But COME, WAIT and going on walks were more than a little challenging for us. She also didn't really respond to NO--no amount of volume or eye contact would make her stop doing something. After coming home to find out she had gone missing when a roommate let her out, I knew we would have to act fast. I interviewed with a couple of trainers, but I really felt Jen understood what I was trying to accomplish and the price was what I expected for a good training program. Foxy has gone from being the terror of the house to being a happy and manageable dog! I feel more confident with her and we have built up a routine that works for both of us. She's no longer destructive, comes on command now and she looks forward to our walks and training time. Jen also taught me how to manage a multiple dog household, which is coming in handy with my boyfriend's dog. We also worked on how to ride a bike with Foxy--something I was nervous about tackling on my own. I can't say enough good things about it, and I look forward to going to more Socializing Groups!
Jagger & Bueno, Diane & Todd / Canton
I don't know what we would have done without PRO K-9! When we first got Jagger, we tried to be patient because we knew Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs were skittish by breed. But when he didn't grow out of being scared of his own shadow and wouldn't even go to members of our own family, we knew we needed help. We went through the in home training with Mike and continued with group sessions with Jen, and slowly but surely, Jags became more and more confident and others finally got to see a glimpse of the loving and happy dog he always was with us. Just when everyone was settling in, we had the unexpected addition of Bueno, an Australian Shepherd Mix we rescued from neighbors who weren't taking care of her. It's an understatement to say that Jagger wasn't thrilled with the new addition! When Jen found out the change was posing some difficulties, she came out to the house without hesitation to re-evaluate our situation. We started another session of in home training and now take Jagger and Bueno to group every week. We also started with the "Train While You're Away" Program to help Jagger and Bueno get along better. We still have to work hard to keep everyone happy but our family of four now feels like everyone belongs. Thank you so much to PRO K-9 for teaching us the tools to create a happy home with our two dogs.
Sammy, Lorraine & Michelle / Brighton
I contacted PRO K-9 when I purchased a Havanese puppy as a companion for my 85 year old mother. My thoughts were that I wanted this puppy to be trained, and trained well. I was very impressed with Jen when she came to evaluate Sammy. She took the time to get to know us and Sammy. Jen handled Sammy in a way that it was evident she had many years of experience training dogs. After each training session, I was confident in carrying out the training expectations with Sammy. The in home one-on-one training is worth every penny and is very effective. Jen has given us the tools needed to help keep Sammy on track. I feel confident in recommending PRO K-9 and Jen to anyone thinking about training their dog. I look forward to continued training at the Socializing Groups through PRO K-9 and Jen. Thanks for all your knowledge and willingness to help us train Sammy!
Archer, Dave & Erin / Plymouth
We would like to thank Morgan for the fun walks (Train While You're Away) and great training she's had with Archer. Her hard work has helped us raise a more obedient and sociable dog. With such busy schedules, we were worried that Archer wouldn't get the exercise a corgi needs but your assistance has gone a long way. He's a healthy and happy little guy. We especially appreciate her notes. We look forward to those updates—they helps us keep track of progress in his training and know what we should work on at home. We're happy to have Morgan and look forward to walks to come!
Rambo & Dawn / Roseville
Rambo's training has helped in more ways than intended. I haven't been able to bring him for the group sessions yet because he blew out his other back knee recently and required surgery. He's a high energy dog, and I really noticed it was much easier to handle his recovery this time because it was easier to take him on a leash in the yard, walk and work on training in the house, to keep him from trying to jump on the furniture--easier over all to keep him calm over those weeks when he couldn't move much. Last year it was really difficult because I gave him too much control. He has healed much quicker this time. After his previous surgery last winter, I stopped walking him for his rehab because it was icy and cold out. It never occurred to me that I could walk him in my tiny house! I have recommended you to several people and will continue to do so.
Russel & Shelly / Livonia
Our experience with PRO K-9 was a great one! I must admit, in the beginning we were a little skeptical. My husband helped to train his family pet growing up but I had no prior experience (unless you count watching episodes of Dog Whisperer on TV). Our focus was to eliminate the excessive jumping that Russel greeted guests with, and even sometimes my husband or myself. We thought that compared to other dogs his obedience level was pretty good, and all we needed was help teaching Russel some manners. I am so happy that we decided to go with PRO K-9. Turns out, he did need some help with his basic obedience. From the first meeting where Russel jumped all over Jen to where he is now, it's almost like a different dog. He responds so much better to us and even to our family members that we don't worry about taking him places. Walks are much more pleasant, he isn't as mouthy to us or our family, he isn't jumping to greet visitors, and he listens and responds so much better! We went to my family's house for Thanksgiving and decided to take Russel with us. I was completely amazed at what a good dog he was! He needed some guidance in the beginning, but no where near as bad as prior visits. Here we were seeing all of the work we had done put to the test, and he passed with flying colors! Overall, we are very happy that we chose the PRO K-9 program. Now, my husband and I have the tools to teach Russel how to be a great dog.
Peyton, Kristy & Matt / Flat Rock
Peyton has always been an extremely playful pup, the poster child for the purebred Husky. As he got older playfulness became aggression and we noticed new behaviors we did not like. We thought we had done everything right--puppy classes at the local Petsmart, private lessons, etc. But nothing seemed to really work. Now 3 years old, the situation had become serious and we knew we needed a professional. We found PRO K-9 while searching for behavior modification experts online and signed up for their Dog Training for Life Program. Our experience has truly been life changing. The first day Jen arrived at our house, we saw instant results. She helped us realize not only did Peyton have a lot to learn, but so did we. Our aggressive, dominant dog was really just insecure and ill-equipped to deal with almost every situation in his daily environment. We had encouraged the bad behavior without even knowing it. The patience, dedication, professionalism, and wealth of knowledge Jen provided to both us and Peyton has been invaluable. She truly is amazing. It is clear she loves what she does and cares about her clients. We are now taking advantage of the weekly Socializing Groups and couldn't be happier. At the last group, we were able to fully participate with the other dogs--this not something that could have ever been possible 5 weeks ago. We want to thank PRO K-9 and Jen for giving us the tools needed to continue with Peyton's training and for improving our family's quality of life. We have and will continue to recommend this program to everyone.
Ruby & Nina, Brad & Cheryl / Livonia
It has been absolutely wonderful to have Kalie train Ruby and Nina 'while we're away'. She quite clearly demonstrates love and care for the dogs, and they are clearly crazy about her. When we come home from work, the dogs are exercised and in a great frame of mind. It's priceless. We think the world of PRO K-9, and especially the TWYA program. Don't know what we'd do without them!
Duffy & Elaine / Ann Arbor
I couldn't be happier with the results of the PRO K-9 program! Jen was wonderful!! She really knows her stuff. But more importantly she was a joy to work with. She could not have been more supportive, patient, & kind. I couldn't recommend Jen and this program more enthusiastically! All the wonderful things she has taught us have had a wonderful impact on Duffy's behavior. He is still making improvements and we receive lots of compliments about him! Thanks so much for all you did for us!
Polo & Melissa / Canton
From the moment Jen stepped in our door, I was impressed. Amazingly impressed. My hyperactive 80 lb puppy, who just loves to tackle, scratch, and pummel visitors, promptly sat at Jen's feet and waited for her okay to be petted. My amazement grew as she taught him how to walk calmly on leash, sit-and-stay for up to 20 minutes, and just be all around more respectful of his human companions. It brings me great joy to say: "Now, I'm the leader!"
Pierre, Mack & Mauricio / Royal Oak
I contacted PRO K-9 for help with obedience with my 16-month old French bulldog and 20-month old English bulldog (Pierre & Mack). I was particularly concerned about the challenge especially because Mack is nearly deaf. Jen came to our home within one week, met the dogs, and immediately started offering advice to help me communicate better with them. The education was as much for me as it was for the dogs! Jen taught me how to be the leader of the pack and to keep the dogs focused. It was clear that both Pierre and Mack loved to practice. Because of Mack's deafness, Jen taught us hand signals which worked great. What is even more amazing is that the training went beyond obedience to include tips on how to correct undesirable behaviors in my dogs. I noticed changes almost immediately. Both dogs responded very well to praise-based training. Forget about treats, shocks, etc. It certainly was a lot of work to practice our lessons every night, but the rewards were absolutely worth it. I have no doubt that my dogs and I have a much stronger bond thanks to Jen and PRO K-9. I would be comfortable recommending them without reservations!
Gulliver & Cathy / Monroe
I have been trying to think of all the ways I wanted to thank Jen and Mat for all of the work they have done with Gulliver and all the support they've given us. In the end, all I can think of is to say is THANK YOU! You haven't just taught Gulliver, you have taught us as well. Thanks to Jen and Mat, we've learned the right and wrong way to handle different situations that have really made a difference! I think one of the major goals we had for him was to not be afraid of stairs anymore. I know it took an entire training sessions but he did it!! I wouldn't say he loves them now but he will go up and down them if we tell him to. Gulliver has accompanied to me a few new places recently. He has gone with me to get my hair cut, the grocery store, and Wyandotte Street Fair for a couple hours. He did amazing and listened to all the commands we've worked to teach him. We are eager to continue his service dog training! So, again, thank you so much for all the time and effort you've devoted to Gulliver and ME!
Kaia, Ryan & Lisa / Manchester
To say our experience with PRO K-9 was a pleasurable one is a massive understatement. Not only was Jen punctual and professional, but also she was extremely knowledgeable. It was immediately evident that she has been training dogs for many, many years. Our oldest dog, Kaia, is a four year old Boxer who has extreme separation anxiety. Jen gave us tools and valuable advice on how we can help Kaia overcome some of her anxiety. She also spent a few weeks showing us various training techniques that all help Kaia become a better behaved, less excitable Boxer. For any future training need we have for either one of our dogs, we will not hesitate to call PRO K-9.
Nugget, Kim & Jake / Madison Heights
Hiring Jen from PRO K-9 has been one of our best decisions ever. Our dog, Nugget, is well behaved and we have Jen to thank! We started training with Jen when Nugget was about 5 months old. Jen was flexible with the times to meet with us which was key to making all of this work. Jen started with teaching my husband and me the skills we needed to handle Nugget properly in all kinds of situations. Then we all worked with Nugget to make sure he was well prepared to grow up to be a kind and well behaved dog. With the training covering Nugget and ourselves we had regular improvements. We don't go anywhere without getting compliments of Nuggets manner and behavior. We highly recommend Jen to all dog owners! Thank you!
Cooper, Christina & Tom / Canton
We loved working with (Jen). We were so impressed with what (Jen) taught Cooper and how well he responded to the training. We felt that the personal attention with the home visits was the key to Cooper's success. And it was so nice for us as well! He is now 7 months old and is still doing great. And we come up against a behavior that we do not like, we feel equipped to handle it thanks to all that you taught us. We hope to get to a Socializing Group soon. I would DEFINITELY recommend PRO K-9 to anyone who asks. Thank you again for the time, effort and commitment you put into Cooper's training!
Goober & Marcia / Redford
I contacted PRO K-9 when my dog, Goober, started snapping at people, and had to pull him from the show ring. With Jen's help we found out he had developed a fear aggression. Jen helped me to see the signs Goober was giving to let me know a situation was about to go awry. The in-home training really helped pinpoint his problem and get us started on life long training techniques, that are also being used on our other three dogs. We continue with the group socializing and pack hikes as they are fun and stress free and the dogs love them. We still have a little way to go to get Goober back in the show ring but now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I don't know where we'd be if not for the training, patience, diligence and support of not only Jen and Mat, but all the owners training their own dogs that helped us. THANK YOU ALL!!!!
Carmen, Chandra & Rick / Livonia
I would highly recommend PRO K-9 to anyone who truly loves their dog and wants to work to keep their dog a part of the family. When we had our first child, our 10 year old miniature pinscher started acting out by peeing in our bed and all over the house. We took her to the vet and spent hundreds of dollars just to hear that there was nothing physically wrong with her time and time again. Then she reacted to the baby and I knew we had to get help! In her first visit, Jen explained to us the basics of how to treat a dog respectfully while also gaining respect from our dog. In fact, our dog was sitting and waiting during that first hour--something I was never able to teach her! Now, two years later, and after making some simple changes, our dog (although still super hyper) is not a ball of anxiety. She respects and adores our daughter and even respects the new baby! It really feels like a miracle and I couldn't be happier!
Charlie, Kellie & Brock / Plymouth
We had a great experience with Jen and Pro K-9! Our little dog Charlie was having some behavioral issues and problems meeting new dogs and new people. Day 1 when Jen came to our house we realized that we had been doing so many things to enable these aggressive behaviors and had our work cut out for us. Jen was very professional and nice to us and Charlie and we couldn't be happier with the service. We know we still have to work with him everyday but now we have the tools needed to be able to successfully teach Charlie ourselves. We have seen such improvements already and even have our friends and family calling him the "new obedient Charlie"! We couldn't have done it without you so thank you!
Honey & Jason / Dearborn
My fiance and I really love the Train While You're Away program that PRO K-9 provides. After completing our in-home training with PRO K-9, we were looking for dog walker or someone who could let Honey out during our long work days. When we realized PRO K-9 provided this type of service, working on obedience and other training matters with Honey, it was a no-brainer. We've been really impressed with the results that Mat and Kalie from PRO K-9 have had with Honey. From having her walk right beside you on a leash without pulling, to behavioral issues such as going into and out of her crate in a calm manner, she has really improved in many of the trouble areas we requested they work on. Kalie is also very flexible in the days she comes over to visit Honey during the day. I find this aspect especially helpful on the days when we may be delayed from coming home after work.
Sasha, Dave & Julie / Plymouth
The entire Ripple family is thrilled with the results of PRO K-9's in-home training with our year-old black lab, Sasha. Prior to training, she was a good dog with some challenges with her manners around friends and visitors to our home. Friendliness is part of her demeanor, but at times, she was simply overly friendly with people. You training techniques helped Sasha in more ways than we can count, but more importantly, gave us the knowledge and confidence to be better "parents" to our lab. We are more than happy to recommend PRO K-9 to our friends, family and others.
Loki & Eriq / Livonia
When my pup, Loki, reached 3 months of age it was apparent that professional training was going to be needed, and after a lot of research, I selected PRO K-9 in large part due to their training methods; being animal behaviorists was very important to me. It was also immensely convenient having the sessions at home where my dog is most comfortable. I could not be more pleased with that decision. Jen impressed me greatly during our initial consultation when she was able to take a completely untrained dog and focus his attention onto the task at hand and be obedient within mere minutes. I couldn’t believe it. Over the next several weeks Jen taught Loki what was expected, and then taught me how to communicate those expectations consistently. It worked. Loki is now a very well behaved dog and many people have commented on his excellent behavior. Each week Loki and I meet with a group of other owners to further reinforce everything we learned at home, only now with real-world distractions. This was an invaluable experience for both my dog and me and has made Loki an even better behaved dog when outside. Almost half a year later I had some questions and contacted Jen about it, she remembered Loki and his mannerisms which really impressed me, and she was quickly and knowledgably able to answer them. It is without reservation that I recommend PRO K-9 and Jen to anyone looking for help with their dog!
Lucy & Sam, Melanie & Mike / Canton
Lucy and Sam practice their training every day. We have come such a long way since we asked for your help! We no longer have to worry that Lucy is going to boss us around. She listens very well, respect's Sam's space, and we can now even approach dogs on the street and parks! She is more confident and less threatened by other dogs. Without your help, we would not have the tools to know how to keep her in line. Thanks to you, Lucy now knows the difference between a sit and a stand--we were afraid if she learned to sit, she would not stand in the ring! Lucy just won her first AKC dog show--Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex! We are so proud of her. Sam has been enrolled in Rally obedience. His first time around the Rally ring, we were commended on his great obedience training, and told that he is a dog that will be able to win titles. We are very proud of how easily Same can perform the tasks without any previous Rally training. This all contributed to your superb obedience training program. We want to thank you, Jen, for all your help with both Lucy and Sam. Your training program is top notch, and worth every penny! We enjoy coming out to groups, and plan to be there soon when the weather is not too hot or wet for our cold loving Pekingese dogs.
Powder & John / Livonia
I am happy and satisfied with the PRO K-9 training program! Powder is much more behaved and attentive as a result. The socialization groups and pack hikes are helpful to advancing her improvement. We look forward to continuing participation in the program!
Charley, Pam & Bud / Dearborn
(Charley, a one year cocker spaniel, started training due to some fairly severe aggression with his owners and canine siblings...) We take Charley and the girls (yorkies) almost every week for socialization class. He's still "full of it" every now and then but we are working with him every day--he's "85%" there and still making improvements. We get compliments on how well he walks, which is very nice. He does extremely well with the construction noise which is the only good thing about it going on here at home.
Wyatt, Kelly & Mark / Westland
Wyatt is doing great! You have done such a wonderful job trainning him! Many thanks to you, and I have been spreading the word for my other friends, and told them to call you to get their dogs trained. We plan to see you soon at Socializing Group to continue Wyatt's training.
Booma, Amy & Frank / Plymouth
We began working with PRO K-9 because our 1 year old Rottweiler mix had very high separation anxiety and was miserable when we left him in his cage. Jen taught us to work with Booma on basic obedience and confidence building exercises. Booma took to Jen and training very quickly and we were amazed by the speed at which he took to our daily sessions. Jen taught us that our puppy needed to be mentally challenged and emotionally confident. After our initial 5 sessions in our home we began attending group sessions and are so proud of how Booma performed outside of our home. Booma is now confident on walks, well behaved at home, and goes to his crate without tears or self-harm. We will continue attending group to encourage the basic obedience and continuing education for our little pup. Thank you PRO K-9 and Jen for helping make our pup happier and healthier!
Sandie, Dan & Eileen / Redford
We called PRO K-9 two weeks after we adopted our rescue dog, Sandie. The minute Jen walked in the door, Sandie responded well. Over the next 5 weeks, Jen not only worked with Sandie on commands and obedience activities, but taught us as well. Each week, Jen focused on specific commands and obedience training/activities. We really liked the one-on-one training. Jen was very helpful answering any questions we had. The commands are simple; we just had to learn to be consistent (leash handling, verbal/hand commands). We quickly realized that training is a continuous 24/7 job! It is a huge commitment, but must be done to achieve results. Jen provided a great booklet for reference detailing the commands and obedience activities. Overall, we are very happy we called PRO K-9. Jen helped build the foundation for us to have a happy, well-trained dog. We couldn't have started Sandie's obedience training without her. Thanks, Jen!
Eddie & Wilson / Canton
Thank you Jen for helping us reign in our 10-pound nightmare, Eddie. This rescue Shih-Tzu/Maltese mix was making life miserable for us and our 8-year-old black Lab, Wilson. We held Wilson back from Eddie when he first came into our home at 3-months-old, for fear 100-pound Wilson would accidentally hurt this cute little puppy. The cute little puppy quickly turned into a chewing machine starting with Wilson and moving on to our wood chairs, wood trim, carpet, toys, etc. He stole socks, shoes, anything he could get his paws on to hide away and chew. He loved to steal tissue from wastecans and spread them across the floor. This, in spite of all the dog toys we provided. We knew All of this was our fault, of course! We just didn't know how to fix it. Thank you for showing us how to demonstrate leadership and for stressing the importance of consistency for all of us while interacting with Eddie. For every problem we had with Eddie, Jen had a fool-proof solution. She patiently, and with a sense of humor, taught us how to give Eddie "work" to do in the form of training and that without it, he would come up with his own work--annihilation of our belongings. We recommend Jen and PRO K-9 without reservation.
Pepper, Marcie & Ron / Plymouth
We have found the PRO K-9 dog training a very good program. Pepper has responded well and seems to be much more relaxed and happy. I liked the fact that we learned a few new things every week, but practiced and built on the prior training. By the end of the five weeks it all fit together and made sense. Pepper and I walk a mile and a half every morning and sometimes again in the evening. We enjoy the time together, and quite often walk with a friend and her dog. Quite often we run into other walkers and dogs. Of course they are not trained so if I have to I just put him in the sit-stay until they pass. He is getting the hang of it. I also have him do that when my friend approaches to join us and make him sit until I release him. He can then greet her but has become much more polite about it. I would certainly recommend the program. I think the in-home one-on-one is more effective than a group lesson, which we had done before. A friend told me about lessons her dog went to--if a dog was not being controlled the instructor made them leave!
